After the forced break due to the pandemic, the Ongava Game Reserve, with its four lodges, is now fully back in business. The reserve is located south of Etosha National Park and has been committed to nature conservation and environmental protection for more than 30 years. With its "Listen to Nature" philosophy, it's now also inspiring guests to give nature its due. 

From cattle farm to nature reserve

What is now considered one of Namibia's largest and most exquisite private nature reserves was originally a series of unprofitable cattle ranches. In 1991, a number of like-minded families joined forces to buy the 30,000 hectares of land and turn them into a visionary nature reserve. Numerous endangered species of wild animals have found a new home here – and are now safe from poaching.

The animals are grateful as the waterholes of the Ongava Game Reserve are among the most frequented. In addition to lions, white and black rhinos, elephants, giraffes, zebras and numerous antelopes can also be found here. At the reserve's own research station, scientists study the genetics and behavior of rhinos, among other things.

A Pionoeer of Eco Tourism

Since its beginnings, the resort has been known for its approach to tourism. It aims to be a place of the next generation for the next generation. Guests can learn all about nature and locally collected knowledge at the visitor center. All lodges are operated under the guiding principles of "nature first" and "happy guests." Safari fans can choose from a variety of different accommodations.

In Namibia, you can experience the adventurous part of going on safari with a side of luxury: a glamping tent puts you in the middle of nature, but with all the amenities of a deluxe hotel room. The guides are always to share their knowledge of nature, animals and their behaviors with the guests, who are also encouraged them to look inwards and reconnect with nature, and to mind the environment, pause and simply listen.
