15 April 2021

sustainability and environmental awareness are playing an increasingly important role, both in everyday life and in travel. Even the recently opened hotel in Tenerife Royal River Luxury Hotel is committed to sustainability and made the issue one of the five concept points on which the resort is built, right from the early planning stages of the hotel complex.

Clean and green energy

An important point for the protection of the environment, provides the energy supply, which comes from 100 percent renewable sources. The exclusive five-star resort, located directly on the Costa Adeje golf course, avoids emissions of 1.4 tons of carbon dioxide per year. In addition, all the water in the resort is heated by biomass boilers. Thanks to the use of automation processes in the more than 50 villas and the common areas, the lighting and the use of the air conditioning are also controlled more effectively. Furthermore, in addition to particularly low-consumption light bulbs and LEDs, presence sensors are also used.

Use of biodegradable products

The hotel's namesake "rivers" are swimming rivers that can be accessed directly from the terraces of the villas. This concept, unique on the island, is an absolute highlight, along with the central swimming pool and infinity swimming pool with views of the mountains and the entire south coast. To ensure sustainability in these areas as well, salt is used to produce the chlorine. There is also no use of disposable plastic items in the resort. The entire hotel uses waste recycling systems in all areas and garbage bags, shower caps, as well as straws and glasses are all biodegradable. To avoid even more disposables, soap dispensers are available in the washrooms. As the topic of electric mobility is also becoming increasingly important for a more sustainable future, there are charging stations for electric cars at the facility.

The resort has already planted over 100 palm trees and more than 3,000 plants and trees that help improve oxygen levels.

Social responsibility and local ties

Tenerife offers a variety of top local produce, made special by the volcanic soils. The Royal River also stands out for its gastronomic offer. So in the three bars and four restaurants, which include an Asian and a French gourmet restaurant, guests are not only spoiled culinary, but also make an important contribution to the sustainable development of the largest Canary Island.

The resort uses products from the island and thus promotes the production and development of the local agricultural economy.
