Why We Want to Go on Horseback Safari in Namibia Now
A horseback safari is not only the most exciting way to explore African wildlife. It's also the most sustainable.

The Namib is the oldest desert in the world. At the same time, it gives its name to the steppe-like land that surrounds it. Home to numerous species of animals, from oryx to zebra, springbok to giraffe, it never fails to enchant visitors. Even whales and penguins can be seen in the wild in southern Namibia. Now, guests at Gmundner Lodge have the opportunity to get closer to the animals on land during a horseback safari.

Up close and personal
Located southeast of Windhoek, nestled between the Kalahari Desert to the east and the Khomas Mountains to the west, Gmundner Lodge is an extraordinary place in itself. After all, as part of the 500-year-old Austrian company Gmundner Keramik, there's naturally a lot of emphasis on culinary and table culture here. The farm-to-table concept is not a marketing gimmick, but rather a matter of course. In addition to the beautiful accommodations of the lodge and the conventional safaris riding safaris are also offered now.

The participants can thus approach the wild animals particularly tight. Unlike a jeep, the observed don't scent horses and their riders so easily. If you ride on the back of a horse through a herd of antelopes, you won't stop being amazed. The horse whisperer Laurenzo ensures that the riders on the over 6000 hectare piece of land may feel safe at any time.
Firm in the saddle
He originally comes from Botswana, where he grew up on his family's horse farm. Already at the age of eight, he swung himself into the saddle and joined in the hard work. Eventually Laurenzo came to Namibia, where he now puts his heart and soul into his work as a field guide. He personally trains and coaches the American Quarter Horses that come to the field. And when he sets off on a horseback safari, he also passes on his love for this continent to the guests.

And they get to enjoy a horseback safari at no extra cost as part of the all embracing concept. These last about two hours. Whether it's a ride at dawn with a sunrise, followed by breakfast, a sleepout with outdoor dinner and overnight stay in a tent, or sundowner rides: unforgettable experiences and goosebumps moments are guaranteed.

The snorting of the horses, the special atmosphere that lies over the steppe, the leisurely rhythm, the silence, the feeling of leaving everyday life far behind: All this makes a horseback safari special. It's rounded off by stays in the twelve luxurious suites, the wonderful culinary delights and the Gmundner Spa. It offers massages and relaxation in the midst of nature.
