Phuket - Thailand's wonderland in the Andaman Sea

Finally, the time has come - visitors can travel to Thailand's largest vacation island Phuket again. To say it right away, the effort involved in filling out all the forms is worth it. Once landed in Phuket, visitors immerse themselves in a relaxed vacation atmosphere, enjoy the sun, the mild temperatures and the pleasantly warm sea water.

The hands folded in greeting, a gentle smile on the lips and with a wreath of fragrant orchids, guests are welcomed at the Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket Resort. "We are happy that more guests can come again," hotel manager Prachoom Tantiprasertauk enthuses at an evening cocktail reception. In the morning, at sunrise, a walk along the beautiful golden beach is worthwhile. Afterwards, breakfast is delicious - especially the wonderful exotic fruits. During the day, the gently sloping beach invites you to swim in the crystal clear water. If you like, you can snorkel, build beach castles or just laze around.

But Phuket offers much more than just a carefree beach vacation. Here come some recommendations:

Cooking School Blue Elephant

Chili, coconut milk, lemongrass and unknown spices - Thai cooks conjure up great dishes from these ingredients. Why not prepare something yourself under expert guidance? The five-hour cooking course begins with a stroll through the colorful market, where fresh ingredients are purchased. Then Sandra Steppe explains her cooking secrets, and finally we stand at the stove ourselves. We are amazed to discover that it is not that difficult to prepare a delicious masaman curry, a crab casserole or a papaya salad. It tastes delicious and there is even a certificate for us.

Explore the old town of Phuket

The alleys with their colorful and beautifully renovated houses in the Sino-Portuguese style are reminiscent of times long past. We learn more about this in the Thai Hua and the Baba Museum - both are worth a visit. While strolling, we also discover graffiti and street art, and many chic cafes where we take a break. Every Sunday it gets really crowded in Thalang Road. Already in the afternoon, vendors set up their stalls. We try some of the freshly prepared delicacies and find nice souvenirs.

A good massage is a must in Thailand. This elegant spa is nestled in a tropical garden between the beach and the lagoon and offers pure relaxation. King of Oasis - that's the name of my treatment - and I feel a bit like a king afterwards. The treatment begins with a hot herbal compress for the muscles. Afterwards, a massage with hot, fragrant oil provides relaxation and awakens new strength in the body.

Mix the perfect cocktail at Chalong Bay Rum Distillery

Yes, sugar cane grows on Phuket. From it, an excellent rum with different flavors is distilled. On a tour of the distillery, the production process is shown. More exciting is the lesson in mixing. In Devil's Gold Cocktail, for example, half a mango, three fresh kaffir lime leaves, a red chili pepper, fresh lime juice and a spoonful of honey are added to the rum. Well mixed, the drink not only looks good in the cocktail glass, it also tastes wonderful.

By catamaran to Kahung Beach

Let's go from Chalong Pier. You climb barefoot onto the snow-white catamaran and set sail. The destination is Kahung Beach, one of the most beautiful in the region. On the way the anchor is dropped, snorkeling in the crystal clear water. On the beach we laze around, and the fresh coconut from the beach bar tastes fantastic.
