Exclusive and sustainable luxury at sea: The new Silver Origin
Discover the Silver Origin - Designed for the Galapagos, created for you.
March 15, 2022
The Silver Origin, which was just officially christened by godmother Johanna Carrións, a renowned Galápagos-based conservationist, is Silversea's first ship built exclusively for a dedicated destination.
In designing and outfitting this unique ship, Silversea has combined the guest experience with the unique geography and character of the Galapagos to create an entirely new kind of ship. Among other things, a newer meeting place, Basecamp, has been incorporated where you can familiarize yourself with the destination while still on board. And that, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows that offer breathtaking views. On board the ship, you can also enjoy authentic Ecuadorian cuisine. The Silver Origin features a brand new design that increases efficiency and minimizes the vessel's impact on the delicate ecosystem of this incredible archipelago.
The expedition-inspired naming ceremony was co-hosted by executives from Silversea Cruises and Royal Caribbean Group.
Sustainability: Protecting the Galapagos, today and in the future
When designing the Silver Origin sustainability played a major role. Thanks to state-of-the-art technology and solutions developed specifically for Galapagos cruises, the ship's impact on the environment is minimal. It features a dynamic positioning system that keeps the ship in one place without anchors, protecting the fragile seabed and underwater flora and fauna. Thanks to a new hull design and advanced propulsion system, the Silver Origin boasts the highest standards of energy efficiency. In addition, all suites have a fresh water treatment system, so that the consumption of plastic bottles is significantly reduced.

Your destination begins on board
The natural beauty of the Galapagos makes it one of the best cruise destinations in the world. In more than five years of Galapagos cruising, Silversea has learned that guests want to immerse themselves in this magnificent destination while still on board. That's why the cruise line has made a point of creating as many bright and open spaces as possible aboard the Silver Origin for the guests to enjoy. Thanks to the large floor-to-ceiling windows that span the entire ship, the ship offers a breathtaking view of the Galapagos Islands around the clock. So the islands are with you while you eat, sleep and relax. From the Observation Lounge and Stargazing Platform to your suite, you'll have an unobstructed view of nature. You may spot a sea lion lolling on the shore through the glassed-in horizon balcony or from your own ocean-view shower. Everywhere aboard the Silver Origin you will have the feeling of being very close to the islands.

Become an expedition expert
Silversea has learned from guests that they prefer to start the expeditions already on the ship and that good preparation is important to fully enjoy the excursions to the islands. For this reason, the cruise line ensures that all guides are experts in their field and certified by the Galapagos National Park. Therefore, the Silver Origin offers a brand new space: the Basecamp. An inviting and innovative "information lounge" that showcases all the wonders and history of the archipelago and is equipped with materials and tools to provide you with a wealth of insider knowledge. Silversea's qualified guides - more per guest than on any other ship in the region - are on hand at all times during your stay to prepare you for your magical adventures ashore. Basecamp is adjacent to the area for loading the many Zodiacs® on board. In fact, the Silver Origin ,with the most Zodiacs® per guest in the entire region, offers the most personalized onshore experience.
