What dog owners have long loved, seems to be the more sensible alternative for many others this summer. To Mallorca, for example, it goes from Barcelona or Toulon via ferry, explains the leading finca broker of the holiday island, fincallorca

Mallorca does not always have to be reached by plane - a road trip across several countries is also an option.

From the Salzach to the Mediterranean

From the Mozart city of Salzburg, the 1,000-kilometre journey to the ferry port in Toulon takes around eleven and a half hours. On the way, it's worth spending a night in the fashionable northern Italian city of Milan. From there, the journey to the port of Toulon takes you along the picturesque Cote d'Azur in France. Worthwhile breaks are offered in Nice with its baroque old town or in Cannes for a stroll along the promenade.

If you prefer to take the ferry from Barcelona to Mallorca, the journey from Salzburg takes about fifteen and a half hours, covering a distance of 1,500 kilometres. On the way, the pretty city of Geneva between the Alps and the Jura mountains offers an ideal opportunity for a relaxing stopover. The Swiss city at the southern end of Lake Geneva offers a spectacular backdrop in the form of Mont Blanc.

Those starting their route from Salzburg should definitely make a stopover in the fashion city of Milan. Geneva is also an ideal stopover, especially for those who want to cross from Barcelona to Mallorca.

Road trip Vienna - Palma and back

The 1,300-kilometre route can theoretically be completed in one piece with alternating drivers. For those who like to take it easy, on the other hand, a stopover in Italy is ideal. There is a choice of two beautiful and historic cities along the route, Venice or Milan.

For the long distance, it is advisable to make a stop at two intermediate stations. Tip for stopover number one is Zurich. The next day, drivers can enjoy an overnight stay in Montpellier, France, with its Mediterranean charm. From the Mediterranean city, it is then just under four hours to the port of the Catalan metropolis.

If you are heading for the ferry crossing in Barcelona, you can stop in Montpellier and let yourself be seduced by the French charm.

On the way, passengers do not remain sitting in the car, but enjoy the view of the wide sea. Those travelling overnight have the option of booking a sleeping cabin. Per person with car for round trip about 200 euros are due, each additional passenger without own car costs 85 euros. Bargains outside the high season are correspondingly cheaper.
