Hotel director Wolfgang Putz lets us take a look behind the scenes and reveals how he feels about the festival season, which famous personalities he has had the pleasure of meeting over the years and when it is best to visit the festival. "There's something magical about festival time. It's as if the city changes during this time - well-dressed people stroll through the old town, you hear all different languages and there's this special anticipation, a light-hearted, international flair in the air. It's really unique," Wolfgang Putz enthuses.

The hotel manager is particularly fascinated by the fact that no two days are the same and that you meet exciting people from all over the place who all embody their own story and evoke unique memories. "You meet personalities that you would very likely never meet as a private person," says Wolfgang Putz. "I have two particularly lasting memories of a private dinner of leading politicians from Europe as well as opera stars and a photo shoot with US actress Rosario Isabel Dawson. I will never forget these two experiences," he adds.

The best time to grab a spot

As a special tip, if you are interested in the Salzburg Festival, Wolfgang Putz recommends you to book as early as the beginning of November, after the programme is published. He also recommends considering the periods at the end of July and the end of August for a visit. "Here the Festival programme is at least as good and we have to turn away fewer guests. In mid-August everything is usually booked up very early," advises Wolfgang Putz.

The most beautiful place in the hotel

Wolfgang Putz's very personal favourite place in the hotel is the bar and the new Herzl Gastgarten - an oasis of calm in the middle of Mozart's city. "Finally meeting friends and family in our new Herzl Gastgarten again, after these long weeks of doing without in winter, or drinking our house cocktail Susanne in our bar - I am sure that people are longing for these convivial moments right now, which were not possible in the past months and were taken for granted for so long," says the General Manager.
