Unbelievable but true: There are a total of 25,000 lakes throughout Austria. There's no doubt that everyone will find their favourite! But today we present you three very special lakes, because they are real Instagram hotspots. APA Comm has taken a closer look at the popular photo motif of the bathing lake and, after three years, once again researched 120 Austrian bathing lakes and evaluated how present their hashtags are on Instagram. Here are the three most popular ones! Maximum "beach" feeling guaranteed - right in the middle of Austria!

1. lake constance, Vorarlberg

Lake Constance is in first place by far. There are almost two million posts for the hashtag #Bodensee as of August 3, 2021. Already in 2018, Lake Constance was the Instagram star among Austria's lakes. According to APA-Comm, on the one hand this has to do with its size, but it's mainly due to the fact that Lake Constance is located in the border triangle of Germany, Austria, Switzerland. Therefore, it attracts tourists from all over the world, which helps it get the first place, according to the analysis. The Bregenz Festival Stage, Lake Constance shipping and the flower island of Mainau are among the most popular Lake Constance photo motifs.

2. lake Wörthersee, Carinthia

Second place goes to the Carinthian Wörthersee. The alpine lake, known for its top culinary delights and its striking turquoise-blue color, can be found on almost half a million posts on Instagram. A direct comparison shows that Lake Wörthersee can be called the "top dog" among Carinthia's bathing lakes. With a total of 29 Carinthian lakes analysed, Lake Wörthersee alone records more postings than the remaining 28 together. And this despite the fact that with Lake Faaker See and Lake Weissensee, two other bathing lakes from the southern province can be found in the top 10. Lake Wörthersee, a lake formed by glaciers during the Ice Age, offers countless leisure activities. Whether swimming, surfing or hiking - here everyone gets their money's worth.

3. lake Achensee, Tyrol

In third place is the "Tyrolean Sea", the Achensee. It is the newcomer on the podium. Compared to the results from 2018, the mountain lake, which is particularly popular with surfers and sailors, climbs up two ranks, pushing Lake Neusiedl and Lake Attersee down to fourth and fifth place. A development that, according to Manuel Kerzner, analyst at APA Comm, follows a general trend: "Tyrol's swimming lakes show the biggest increas on Instagram compared to 2018. Six of the ten lakes with the strongest posting growth are in Tyrol." Whether you're gliding across it, diving down or exploring the lake on a paddleboard - taking photos is definitely worth it!
