We should go through this checklist before our next vacation

Seven things we should definitely look out for....

18 June 2021

Even if travelling is possible again almost without restrictions, there are still one or two things we should think about in advance and in the best case, plan ahead. Not in every country the same Corona regulations and entry requirements apply.

Here are seven things everyone should have on their checklist before going on their next vacation.

1. know about the entry requirements of the country

Even though entry regulations have widely been relaxed, there can still be different regulations. In most cases, negative PCR or antigen tests are valid, as well as valid vaccination certificates and certificates of Corona recovery. In some countries, however, one may be required to show a Corona test in addition to the vaccination certificate. The current rules can be found either on the page of the Foreign Ministry or on the official homepage of the respective country.

2. know the Corona restrictions at the destination

There are different regulations depending on the country and the number of infections. While in Austria everyone is still obliged to wear an FFP2 mask, conventional surgical masks are sufficient to be in public places, inside buildings, or on public transport in some other countries. Closing hours or night-time exit restrictions also vary depending on the location.

3. check the testing possibilities in the surrounding area

Those who are not yet immunised should find out in advance where there are possibilities to get tested for the coronavirus. However, it won't be quite as easy as Austria, where free testing facilities are waiting on every corner. However, many hotels and public centres already offer antigen tests. In addition, you should research where you can do a PCR test, if necessary, and how much it will cost.

4. buy admission to museums or events in advance

In order to avoid long waiting times and queuing in a crowd, you can buy various entrance tickets online in advance. Many institutions already offer flexible cancellation, if you change your mind spontaneously.

5. make reservations in advance for restaurants and bars

The same goes for restaurants and bars. This has several advantages. For one thing, you often don't know which places to visit anyway and every now and then you end up in typical tourist traps. But if one already looks for restaurants and bars before the holiday, reads the reviews and makes a reservation right away, one saves a lot of trouble. In addition, one can also inform oneself about the applicable Corona regulations.

6. pack the right things

Even before the pandemic, it was advisable to write a checklist to pack only the essentials and not to forget anything. Now, however, a few more things should be on this list. Such as mouth-nose protection, disinfectant and possibly also a fever thermometer and self-testing kits.

7. inform yourself about the return

In order to save yourself a lot of stress during the return journey - which would bring the holiday to a negative end - you should definitely know in advance about any quarantine regulations when returning home. Unfortunately, there are still a few virus variants in circulation at the moment that could change the situation at any time.
