Unique churches, beautiful old towns and historic buildings: Europe's capitals captivate with beautiful architecture and a mixture of old tradition and modern novelties. These four capitals are must-sees for architecture fans.

Amsterdam (Netherlands)

Amsterdam's canals are not only world-famous, but also have UNESCO status. In the Dutch capital, however, they are only one of the many highlights that await visitors. Because the beautiful colorful brick houses, which are waiting for you at every corner, are always worth a photo.

Other highlights include the uniquely designed train station, the palace and the Westerkerk with its beautiful tower. By the way, the best way to see the architectural diversity and beauty of the city is on foot. So be sure to plan a long walk!

Brussels (Belgium)

When you think of Brussels, you often think of the massive atomic sculpture, the Atomium. But the Belgian capital has much more to offer in the field of architecture. After all, Brussels is one of the most important representatives of Art Nouveau buildings. On many corners of the city, one recognizes the beautiful houses that were designed by Victor Horta. The Hotel Tassel and the Maison & Atelier Horta are two of the city's must-sees. Horta's Art Nouveau buildings are also part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage.

In addition to the historic buildings, the beautiful Old Town, the Royal Palace and the Grote Markt are also architectural highlights that must be seen.

Moscow (Russia)

Moscow's architecture can actually be described in one word: imposing. Because here you will find the most diverse styles and facets. From the traditional golden bell tower to the colourfully decorated St. Basil's Cathedral and Red Square to the American-inspired skyscraper landscape: in Moscow there really is a building to suit every architecture fan.

One of the modern highlights is definitely the Triumph Palace. With its 264.1 meters, the skyscraper is one of the tallest residential buildings in the world and is strongly reminiscent of skyscrapers in New York City.

Riga (Latvia)

The city centre of Riga is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Special highlights are the Romanesque and Gothic churches with their beautiful domes and towers. At the same time, Riga also offers insights into the Art Nouveau period. The Alberta iela is one of the epicenters of Art Nouveau in Riga and is one of the absolute highlights of the city with its beautifully decorated and blue house facades.

You should also visit the town hall square and the black-headed house there. Because the unique building was already built in 1334 and inspires with its Gothic style and the detailed decorations. Those who start to focus on the details can spend hours here with the small figures.
