5 July 2021

The paradisiacal Bahamas lie off the coast of Florida and consist of 700 mostly uninhabited Islands. These offer not only an incomparable landscape, but also a lot of history and culture. Coral reefs, freshwater caves, pristine bays, mangrove forests, nature reserves and over 260,000 square kilometres of dream beaches make a holiday here a very special experience.

The luxury all-inclusive resort group Sandals Resorts has two resorts in the Bahamas - in Nassau and Great Exuma - inviting guests to enjoy an unforgettable luxury vacation.

Discover biodiversity

The Bahamas is a true paradise on land and underwater - a destination that has always been able to both preserve the unspoiled beauty of the archipelago and protect some unique and endangered species. Parks and nature reserves cover more than 1 million hectares and offer incredible biodiversity. A visit to one of these protected areas, such as Peterson Cay National Park on Grand Bahama, Bonefish Pond National Park in Nassau or Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park on Exuma - the first and largest marine protected area in the Bahamas and the Caribbean - is not only an absolute highlight for nature lovers.

Unforgettable snorkeling experiences

If you are looking for a unique and unforgettable experience in the Bahamas, Island Routes allows you to discover some of the most spectacular places: impressive underwater caves, Jeep tours, the Bahamas Heritage Museum or a romantic boat trip towards the sunset. In addition, the Bahamas are wonderful for snorkeling. But on Big Major Cay, vacationers not only discover numerous colorful fish species, but can also meet the now famous swimming pigs. A group of about 20 pigs and piglets live here and happily splash in the turquoise water - a very special experience.

Nassau: Explore the cosmopolitan capital of the Bahamas

Nassau is located on the main island of the Bahamas, New Providence, and has a charm of its own with the beautiful pastel colonial buildings on Bay Street. The archipelago is rich in history, art and culture, which can be discovered in many places in Nassau: the Straw Market, where you can buy handicrafts, the Pompey Museum and the Junkanoo Expo Museum, where extraordinary costumes are on display. Nassau is also the setting for several of the famous James Bond films, including "Fireball", "Never Say Never" and "Casino Royale", to name a few.

The Exuma archipelago consists of 365 islands. George Town, the capital of Great Exuma - the largest island in the archipelago and connected to Little Exuma by a bridge - is home to some beautiful historic buildings and hosts the annual Family Island Regatta. The archipelago is also home to the beautiful Exuma Cay Land & Sea Park, a marine sanctuary. Junkanoo Festival: Get carried away by the rhythm

The Junkanoo Festival began in the 1900s and, although its origins are unknown, it is now a major parade. It is a performance competition celebrating Bahamian culture and history on Boxing Day, New Year's Day and many summer Saturdays. Picturesque and colourful costumes, prepared over several months, and exuberant dancing, accompanied by music featuring whistles, cowbells, horns and drums made of goatskins, bring Bay Street in downtown Nassau to life. But the festival is also celebrated on almost all the other inhabited islands of the Bahamas.
