For travelers looking for a great adventure, the country of Africa is the perfect place to live it up. Here are five activities from the Great Plains conservation tourism company that true adrenaline junkies shouldn't miss.

1. helicopter tours in Botswana

Great Plains offers its guests the opportunity to book a personal helicopter tour. This offers a sky-high perspective of the Okavango Delta, Linyanti and Savuti regions. Helicopters are a unique way to comprehensively explore the Delta. Land en route for a celebratory glass of champagne in the middle of nowhere, while only the observing wildlife hears the popping of champagne corks. Great Plains guests are provided with headsets for direct communication with the knowledgeable bush pilots to ensure a sustainably informed experience. A highlight for heightened pulse rates and special photo moments is the opening of the helicopter doors during the flight.

2. caving in Kenyan hill country

A must for the guests of the Ol Donyo Lodge is to explore the historic lava tunnels and caves in the heart of the Chyulu Hills. An ideal way to beat the Kenyan midday heat after a morning game drive. This activity is great for active guests who are comfortable climbing over ancient lava rock that was spewed out of Mount Kilimanjaro over 360,000 years ago. The trail leads through crevices that are sun-flooded from above - passing the odd bat or other wild creature.

3. canoe and mokoro trips through the Botswana Delta

Guests of the Duba Explorers Camps can drift through the channels of the Okavango Delta in a canoe or a mokoro, a traditional Botswana dugout canoe. Sit back and let your experienced safari guide inform you about the exotic flora and fauna. Occasionally, hippos or crocodiles can be seen swimming in the distance. An exciting option is to head to a remote, deserted island and explore and spend the day there.

4. on foot on safari in Zimbabwe and Kenya

The 128,000 hectare private Sapi concession area, which includes the Sapi Explorers Camp and the new Tembo Plains Camp (opening August 2021) is the perfect area for walking safaris. Guests will be guided through the acacia and baobab trees in the Albida Forest, where they can enjoy the beautiful scenery and wildlife along the Zambezi River.

5. mountain biking with a view of Kilimanjaro

The Ol Donyo Lodge has high-end mountain bikes for their active guests for advanced riders and also for those who simply want to enjoy rides along the Kenyan plains, there is the right equipment. A bike ride in this area is sure to be unforgettable, as while you pedal and enjoy the fantastic surroundings along with the spectacular wildlife, you always have the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro in view. The team at Ol Donyo Lodge can arrange a pre-prepared lunch to welcome cyclists in the shade of an acacia tree. And when guests feel they've cycled enough, they can be picked up and brought back to camp.
