29 September 2021
Every two years, the "Economist Intelligence Unit" evaluates countless factors that affect city life. This also produces a ranking of cities where life is particularly safe. There are five broad categories that determine this: Digital, Health, Infrastructure, Personal Safety and Environment.
Here are rank 1 to four of the safest cities in the world.
Place 1: Copenhagen, Denmark
At the top of the ranking this time is Copenhagen. The Danish capital has risen from eighth place to the top in 2019. The main reason for this is said to be the introduction of the environmental safety category. Because the city does particularly well in this.
Copenhagen also came out on top in the personal safety category. "A key factor that makes Copenhagen such a safe city is its low crime rate, which is currently at its lowest level in more than a decade," Lars Weiss, Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, said in the report. The Danish city is also characterized by good social cohesion and a low wealth gap.
Place 2: Toronto, Canada
Toronto is already close behind. The megacity in Canada has catapulted from sixth place in 2019 to second place. 76 indicators in the five categories of safety, health, infrastructure, digital and environment have convinced.
Place 3: Singapore, Singapore
In previous years, mostly Asian countries took first to third place on the list. But due to the ongoing pandemic, things have probably changed in terms of security. Singapore, however, is still in the upper range. This time in third place!
Place 4: Sydney, Australia
When it comes to digital security, Sydney is ahead of the game. The Australian city is one of the best when it comes to things like internet access, privacy and cybersecurity. That's why it's also ranked the fourth safest city in the world.
