13 July 2021
The unique natural and animal world of the isolated Archipelago, which lies 1000 km off the coast of Ecuador, has fascinated travelers and scientists for centuries. Starting in January 2022, Hurtigruten Expeditions will expand its itinerary to include the Galapagos Islands, offering modern explorers a unique outdoor adventure.
Fascinating archipelago in the Pacific
From January 2022, Hurtigruten Expeditions will take travellers on board MS Santa Cruz II to some of the most spectacular and exciting locations in the Galapagos archipelago. On board the completely refurbished ship, 90 guests will be able to explore the Galapagos in style and comfort. In the newly refurbished Science Center, a core element of voyages with Hurtigruten Expeditions, the expedition team gives guests an even deeper understanding of the natural and animal world they are exploring.
As the company is committed to sustainable sea travel, all of Hurtigruten's Galapagos Expeditions voyages are carbon neutral. Hurtigruten Expeditions' guests directly contribute to the protection of the biodiverse forests in northwestern Ecuador, which were designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2018. To round off the expedition experience, Hurtigruten Expeditions offers complete travel packages, including long-haul flights and multi-day pre-programs to Machu Picchu or Quito, including a day tour to Cotopaxi National Park.
The most beautiful experiences on the Galapagos Islands
There is actually nothing that you can not experience on the Galapagos Islands. From dream beaches, to crystal clear water and spectacular nature, it's all there. Exotic animals that we know in Europe at most from the zoo often gather in the middle of the sand. These include sea lions and seals and iguanas, which look dangerous at first sight, but are quite harmless. Crabs in all shapes and sizes as well as rare bird species and magnificent turtles cavort on the archipelago.
The underwater world is also impressive. Therefore, the group of islands in the Pacific is also considered the snorkeling paradise par excellence. A colorful variety of fish, rays and other sea creatures can be discovered under water.
Island visitors interested in the preservation of endangered species can visit the Charles Darwin Center. Here you can admire small one month old turtles as well as observe older specimens.
