Oasis in the desert

Of course, the surroundings are spectacular - but the lodge's facilities are nothing to sneeze at either. It boasts a spectacular garden. Guests can relax by the beautiful pool, enjoy the view and unwind on the terrace. The hot tub with its national park panorama promises additional moments of relaxation. If you like, you can observe the flora and fauna of South Africa on the 5-hectare estate, for example at the fish pond or in the swamp area. The latter is particularly suitable for birdwatching.

If you are not on one of the breathtakingly beautiful safari tours, you can also get active in other ways. For example, you can hike through the Drakenberg Mountains, take boat trips on the Blyde River or experience South Africa's nature from a helicopter. Still not enough? From personal trainer to lodge owner

The high-quality gym was a particular concern of the lodge owner Tommy Zadworny . The German originally trained as a sports teacher and therapist. Before joining the hosts, Zadworny worked as a sports instructor, personal trainer, therapist and masseur. His clients included numerous well-known personalities from the worlds of sport, politics and business. So he knows exactly what is good for people.

During a trip to Cape Town in 2001, he was hooked: "From the very first moment, I was amazed by the unique landscape, the fascinating wildlife that you can experience up close in the national parks and the hospitality of the South Africans. It was love at first sight, so to speak,", says Tommy Zadworny.

Comprehensive renovation

At his Sunbirds Oasis Lodge, he welcomes guests in 24 rooms. They are spread across six cabins. A total of 64 travelers can be accommodated here. The delicacies from the restaurant promise culinary highlights, for example, from the grill. It also welcomes external guests with its Dip & Dine offer. The property will be renovated by the end of 2025. The chef himself will also be lending a hand.

"In order to be a little more independent of the energy suppliers in South Africa and to act sustainably, a solar system has already been installed. In the next few years, I would like to add an outdoor sauna and spa area for our guests," says Tommy Zadworny. The local community is also important to him. 15 people from the region work at Sunbirds Oasis Lodge. And he pays for their training or sometimes helps them out with interest-free small loans. That's a vacation with a clear conscience!
