There are probably a lot of places on your bucket list but are not so easy to get to. This is particularly often the case with international destinations. You usually have to catch connecting flights and then travel by train or bus to get to the place of your dreams. The stress factor is correspondingly high. However, these new airports bring hope! Places like Tulum, Siem Reap or Dominica will be easier to reach in the future.

While Tulum, an impressive Mayan site on the Caribbean coast of Mexico, could previously only be reached via Cancún and then required a two-hour drive to get to the beautiful coast, the new Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport brings travelers very close now. This new connection opened for domestic flights in December 2023. International airlines have also been allowed to fly to this destination since the end of March. American Airlines, Delta Airlines, United Airlines and Jet Blue will be offering several direct and connecting flights over the course of this year. Nothing stands in the way of a pleasant trip to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and a visit to breathtaking ruins!

Since November 2023, Cambodia has had a brand new airport. This is seen as a new link to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Angkor Wat, a huge temple complex that is almost a thousand years old. Built to replace a smaller airport from the 1930s, the new Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport is 36 km further away from the World Heritage Site, but is better connected and can also be accessed by very large aircraft. The larger airport can also accommodate more travelers. On average, more than seven million people are expected to arrive here every year. Comfortable travel in Cambodia is therefore guaranteed!

The small island of Dominica in the eastern Caribbean has long been a popular vacation destination for travelers. But until now it was not easy to reach. Construction work on a new airport began at the end of 2023. It's due to replace the old one in 2026. Twenty airlines with non-stop routes from the USA and Europe will then be able to fly to the enchanting island with its white beaches.

Although Sydney already has a large airport, the new one (to the west) is intended to support tourism and make traveling more convenient. The Western Sydney Airport, also known as Nancy-Bird Walton Airport, is due to be completed in 2026 and will serve as a gateway for the Blue Mountains National Park. This is because you can travel straight from the new airport and explore cliffs, waterfalls and impressive sandstone formations in no time at all. It's also assumed that there will be a more even distribution with two airports. Fewer queues, shorter waiting times, less stress! When Western Sydney Airport opens, it's expected to become a hub for more than 10 million people a year.
