The island paradise is finally opening its borders. There will be two phases.
23 June 2021
The summer season is open! With Corona regulations loosened and global infection numbers dropping, travelling is becoming easier again. That's why the Island paradise Mauritius reopens in two phases. Step one: From 15 July, international travellers are once again allowed into the country.
Mauritius opens in two phases
In order to slowly get back to normal, Mauritius is moving towards opening its borders in two phases. Phase one will take place between 15 July and 30 September 2021. During this time, international travellers who are already fully vaccinated will be able to enjoy a dream holiday on the island. During this time, it is possible for tourists to use all facilities of the hotel or resort without any restrictions. If someone stays more than 14 days on the island and provides a negative PCR test, it is possible to explore the attractions of Mauritius away from the accommodation. Upon entry, visitors must present a negative PCR test (which can be 5-7 days old, however) in addition to their vaccination certificate. Additionally, visitors must take PCR tests upon arrival at the airport, after day 7 an after day 14 of the holiday.
Phase two will apply from 1 October 2021, from which time people with a negative PCR test no older than 72 hours will be allowed to enter the country, in addition to those who have been fully vaccinated. However, those without the vaccine will have to spend 14 days in quarantine in their hotel room in both phases.
How Mauritius is fighting the pandemic
The strict entry regulations are intended to ensure that the country and its citizens remain protected from the virus despite tourism. By the end of September, the island state also plans to achieve herd immunity.
Front liners of the tourism industry are prioritized according to the vaccination plan. With this step, Mauritius wants to ensure a speedy comeback of tourism, as it secures many jobs. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, Mauritius has been considered a model nation, as the quick actions made by the government secured a relatively fast containment of the virus.
