Côte d'Ivoire is a fascinating destination. The country on the Atlantic Ocean attracts visitors with its authentic culture, rainforests, seaside resorts and diverse wildlife. And far away from mass tourism. From April, this attractive destination will have its first boutique hotel. That's when the first Design Hotel™ in Côte d'Ivoire will open in the city of Abidjan.

Flair, flora and feeling

Now, the mere fact that a hotel is a member of the renowned Design Hotels™ stands for quality. That alone is nothing special. What makes the first Design Hotel in Côte d'Ivoire unique, however, is its location. The first Design Hotel in Côte d'Ivoire is located in the enclave of Les Deux Plateaux. The neighborhood is known for its embassies, cafes, boutiques and restaurants. Guests here have the opportunity to meet many locals and expats. This was also the vision of Abdallah El Ghandour, the owner of the hotel. He had his architectural vision designed by Local Désiré Mbengue and the interior by Maxime Liautard. The result is a property that consists of nine buildings.

The team placed particular emphasis on creating many green areas. The design also focused on materials from the region. Concrete structures with clear shapes enter into a symbiosis with the organic structures that fascinates. High ceilings, terrazzo floors and floor-to-ceiling windows blend the interior with the tropical gardens outside. Pathways connect the living areas to the restaurant, bar, a verdant marble pool and several terraces. In the 74 guest rooms, select textiles exude a warm atmosphere. Custom-made rugs, custom furniture and elegant art deco influences turn them into hideaways you'd rather not leave. Sengalese designer Aïssa Dione was responsible for this. The rooms and public areas are adorned with artwork by Ivorian artists.

Relax in the rainforest

The Maison Palmier is the ideal place for travelers who want to get to know the economic and cultural center of the country. At the same time, it is an excellent starting point for excursions into nature. The Taï National Park, for example, is only about 100 kilometers away in the southwest of the country. It is West Africa's last large rainforest. Back at the hotel, guests relax by the pool under palm trees, enjoy contemporary French-inspired cuisine made from local ingredients at Le Bistrot Palmier and excellent cocktails at Le Bar. Tip: The signature drink February, 30 is based on green ingredients and tastes great.
