A gourmet heaven in lofty heights

The exclusive restaurant "The Japanese by The Chedi Andermatt" is located 2344 meters above sea level and can already score with a variety of awards. In addition to 14 GaultMillau points, the restaurant, which will open in December 2019, has now also been decorated with a Michelin star. Directly at the mountain station of the Gütsch Express, Executive Chef Dietmar Sawyere and his team celebrate haute cuisine in Japanese. The delicacies of the gourmet hotspot on the Gütsch include Shidashi Bentō, omakase and kaiseki menus, as well as sushi and tempura specialties. Among other things, Dietmar Sawyere has succeeded in setting himself apart from "The Japanese Restaurant at The Chedi Andermatt" with his authentic interpretation of Shidashi Bentō and delighting gourmets with Japanese lunch experiences right on the ski slopes.

Those who still manage to lift their eyes from the plate with so much culinary art will be rewarded: the puristically designed restaurant has just 38 seats - with a view of the Gotthard, the Oberalp Pass and the Ursern Valley. A further 34 outdoor seats await you on the terrace.

"The Michelin Star for The Japanese by The Chedi Andermatt fills me with the greatest joy. After all, it is the highest award for a chef. A tribute to our culinary art, which we celebrate every day, and our passion for Japanese cuisine, which we live and pass on to our guests," says Dietmar Sawyere.

Jean-Yves Blatt, General Manager of The Chedi Andermatt, is also delighted: "We are very proud of this success. The award is a confirmation of our daily efforts to offer our guests exquisite experiences, and also that we have struck a chord with our concept of offering authentic Japanese cuisine."

Second star for Dietmar Sawyere

This is not the first Michelin star for Dietmar Sawyere, who has already worked in the kitchens of London's posh hotels "Savoy" and "Dorchester". Under his aegis, "The Japanese Restaurant" in the The Chedi Andermatt In 2017, the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star and 16 GaultMillau points. At the sushi and sashimi bar, guests choose their favourite menu from the finest fish creations or the signature dish "Black Cod", while the drinks menu includes a proud 110 sake items.

But all good things come in threes: On top, the restaurant "Gütsch by Markus Neff"which is also located on Andermatt's local mountain, received a Michelin star. The year-round destination Andermatt is thus establishing itself as a gourmet mecca in the Swiss mountains.
