Abundance of fish on the reefs
Whether puffer fish, rays, snails, pipefish or even turtles, dolphins and reef sharks - on their dives holidaymakers encounter a colourful variety of marine life. They can admire a particularly large number of fish, for example, on the Siyul Kebira reef one and a half hours north of El Gouna. Here rays, schooling fish, puffer and box fish cavort along the plateau. At Siyul Saghira divers will also find various coral species, stone fish and scorpion fish at a depth of up to 20 metres. For beginners the reefs El Fanadir and Gota Abu Galawa South in the south of El Gouna are recommended.
Thrill of wreck diving
Those who like it a bit more adventurous will get their money's worth with wreck diving. From El Gouna, numerous day trips are made to the wrecks of sunken ships. Popular spots are the wrecks of Abu Nahas, Carnatic, Giannis D. and Chrisoula K. The wreck of the Carnatic has been lying on the seabed for more than 150 years. While the middle part broke apart, the bow and stern are still intact and divers can easily dive into the ship. Almost untouched and only suitable for experienced divers is the wreck of the Rosalie Moeller, which has been lying at a depth of 45 meters since 1941.
