Most good stories begin with "Once upon a time...". This is also true of the impressive Borgo dei Conti Resort in the heart of Umbria. Just 20 kilometers from Perugia and 15 kilometers from Lake Trasimeno, it was once the noble residence of painter Count Lemmo Cesare Rossi-Scotti. Over the last 18 months, the Milanese architects Spagnulo & Partners have built a bridge from this gem, which first opened as a hotel in 2003, to the modern age.

From aristocratic residence to luxury resort

The former country estate had been a hotel for some time. The current owner family Babini bought it in 2003 to make it accessible to discerning travelers, acting as a resort. As one of three members of the new luxury brand The Hospitality Experience , it exceeds the expectations of even the most frequent travelers. Now, after the renovation, it's even more stunning. Viennese Art Nouveau now meets historical stucco, unites with the Babini family's art collection and is in perfect harmony with timeless modernism. Representatives of the latter include Roche Bobois, Meridiani and Cassina.

During the renovation, the focus was on preserving the cultural heritage of the region. For example, Umbrian Renaissance painting has also been incorporated. Local craftsmanship, the play of colors of the surrounding nature and regional materials underline the character of the hotel. For example, they used Etruscan terracotta from Montone, stone from San Terenziano and textiles from Guiditta Brozzetti.

The result of this journey - the enhancement and repositioning of the Borgo dei Conti Resort - shows an outstanding degree of uniqueness that we're very proud of," says Maître de Maison Antonello Buono about the reopening.

Where guests are counts

There are just 40 rooms and suites spread over two buildings. And these in turn are surrounded by an incredible park - the entire estate is 16 hectares in size. In the aristocratic villa, 21 completely renovated rooms and suites await guests, as well as a lounge bar, a lobby and a library. The gourmet restaurant Cedars is located in the former greenhouse. A special feature is the Count's Suite and the Countess's Suite on the villa's bel étage. You can connect them to create 180 square meters of living space.

Directly adjacent, you'll find La Colonica. A total of 19 newly renovated rooms and suites will be available here from 2025. A beautiful infinity pool at the entrance to the park, numerous old olive trees, private cabanas, sun loungers and stunningly beautiful views deepen the feeling of relaxation.

Centuries-old oak and beech trees, long avenues and gardens make you feel like you're walking through bygone, noble times.
