Why You Should Experience Winter in Mallorca
Thanks to more flights, more hotels and more offers, winter in Mallorca in 2024 will be better than ever before.
January 26, 2024
It's well known that Mallorca is one of the most popular destinations for European travelers during the summer months. No wonder, after all, you can soak up the sun on beautiful beaches. Numerous restaurants, the wild and romantic hinterland and an increasing number of luxurious hotels do the rest. However, winter in Mallorca is particularly appreciated by those in search of peace and quiet.

You can still experience the Balearic island at its best during the winter months. But this year there are more winter flight connections to Palma than ever before. In addition, 86 percent of the hotels on the island's capital are open. Across the entire island, the figure is 44 percent. But why is it worth traveling to Mallorca in winter? What can you experience?
Celebrate festivals
The Mallorcans know how to celebrate. Almost immediately after Christmas, they continue with the Sant Antoni festival, the local patron saint of animals. On January 16 and 17, people pay homage to him with fires and barbecues. If you like, you can grill botiforrons (sausages) here. Just a few days later, San Sebastián, the patron saint of the city of Palma, is commemorated. From January 19 to 28, there's dancing and fireworks. The Carnival follows in February (February 10 and 11).

Outdoor adventure
There are 262 beaches around the island. Although they don't necessarily invite you to take a dip in the sea in winter, some of them are deserted. Now is the best time for solitary Instagram shots on the otherwise popular beaches. The temperatures are also ideal for long hikes through the Sierra de Tramuntana. Here, you'll find the right route for every fitness level.

23 golf courses, 600 tennis courts and 500 km of signposted cycle routes make winter sports possible without the cold. The Vuelta Mallorca cycling race also takes place from January 24 to 28. Thousands of almond trees also blossom between the end of January and the end of February. Winter in Mallorca is then also white - and it smells tempting!

Get to know craftsmanship

What's challenging in terms of temperature in summer, is perfect in winter: a visit to the Gordiola glassblowing workshop in Algaida. Glass works of art have been produced here with a love of detail for 300 years. The traditional production has recently been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The manufactory has its own museum where you can follow in the footsteps of craftsmanship.
Visit the orange groves

Between the two picturesque villages of Fornalutx and Biniaraix lies Sa Vinyassa. The organic orange grove stretches over 18,000 square meters at the foot of the Alfaiba massif. And it's - according to the Mallorcans - the place where the ingredients for the best orange juice in the entire Mediterranean region come from. If you want to see this for yourself, go on a guided tour, including juice tasting, of course.
