Victoria Swarovski: It's All About the Diandl

Victoria Swarovski has given her family name a new twist. As the presenter of Let's Dance and Supertalent, the German media landscape sparkles thanks to her. But what is it about Tyrol that makes the 30-year-old shine?

The word presenter isn't enough for you: you are also a singer, designer, model, influencer and have also worked as an actress. What excites you most professionally?
I always like to try out new things and am happy to jump in at the deep end. Professionally, my focus is on presenting. I'm currently presenting Let's Dance for the seventh time and couldn't imagine my life without the show. In the meantime, I've built up my beauty brand Orimei by Victoria Swarovski as a second mainstay. I really enjoy both, as well as being in front of the camera for campaigns or magazines.

As mentioned, you are currently presenting Let's Dance. What does a typical working week look like?
Let's Dance is probably the biggest in German-speaking television in terms of the effort and length of the production. A season, including all the specials, lasts 16 episodes, which is almost four months. As Let's Dance is broadcast live, the preparation is also quite time-consuming - for me this means that I travel to Cologne on Wednesday and only return home on Saturday afternoon after the show. But live broadcasts are definitely my thing, I just love the pressure and its dynamic.

Moving from Germany to Austria: as a Tyrolean, what do you associate with Tyrol?
Tyrol is my home, my favorite place in the world! It's just incredibly beautiful. The nature, the way we interact with each other, it's simply fantastic. Here, you can live wonderfully and simply have a good time.

Do you have a favorite Tyrolean word?
"Gschdiascht", which means "beautiful".

Very beautiful! Which brings us to the next question: what three things are must-visit places in Tyrol?
I would say you definitely have to visit the area around Wilder Kaiser, have watched the downhill skiers at the Hahnenkamm race or have skied down the Streif yourself - and you have to be pampered to your heart's content at Stanglwirt. Tip: If you have time, visit Swarovski Crystal Worlds, the exhibition is really worth a trip.

Perhaps even in one of your dirndls - you have already designed several collections. What connection do you have to traditional costume?
I grew up in Tyrol, so traditional costume is simply part of it. Designing dirndls and lederhosen is just so much fun.

Is your role as a designer a passion that you would like to develop?
Funny, I only recently designed my first collection of summer dresses. I love fashion, so of course it's a great pleasure to create my own designs. It just comes to me naturally.

You've built a career outside the crystal empire. Can you still imagine joining the company at some point? Perhaps as a designer?
I've been going my own way for 15 years now. It was always important to me to be independent. I have great respect for what my family has built up over the years. For me, at least at the moment and not in the foreseeable future, there's no question of getting involved in the operational business. I'm fully focused on my own career and my own ventures.

The name Swarovski is not only famous in Tyrol, it is world-famous. Is that always an advantage or sometimes a disadvantage?
I always say that the surname is both a curse and a blessing. It definitely opens doors and people listen to you in a completely different way - but it also feels like a different yardstick is used; that you have to give more than others in the same position.

What are your next big goals?
I would like to remain successful. A big dream would be to have my own show - we're constantly working on that too.

Final question: You live in Germany but love Spain. Which place do you call home?
Definitely Austria. I am and will always be Austrian at heart!
