In this function, it has hosted crowned heads and guests such as Audrey Hepburn, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Roger Moore, Marlene Dietrich, Queen Sirikit of Thailand, Clark Gable and Eleanor Roosevelt. Hotel Schloss Dürnstein - Wachau, Austria

Built: 1622

Urlaub im Schloss Dürnstein

Ales Borszek

You probably know this small town in the UNESCO World Heritage region of Wachau. After all, King Richard the Lionheart was once imprisoned here. Around 500 years later, the Freiherren von Zelking had the "New Castle" built not far from his dungeon in Dürnstein Castle. After numerous changes of ownership, the grandfather of the current owners, Raimund Thiery, bought the estate on the Danube in 1937. With Johannes Christian Thiery and his sister Maria Katharina Thiery-Schroll, the third generation of the family is now at the helm. There's still more than enough historical flair in the spacious rooms. Of course, modernity has also long since moved in. Just think of the pool with a view of the castle.

A breathtaking 152 hectares surround the imposing castle, which overlooks the Thames. It's a place of tranquillity and, of course, with an almost infinite history. The charming, high-quality furnishings are a reminder. The fact that a vacation at the castle doesn't have to be a dusty affair, even near London, is proven by amenities such as heated indoor and outdoor pools, an elegant spa area and the creative cuisine of chef Chris Hannon. The ambience of the dining room is particularly great. From here, you can look out over the park through huge arched windows.

Aman Venice

The name alone doesn't suggest that you are on vacation in a castle. After all, Aman is generally associated with modern buildings with an often minimalist, Asian-inspired design. However, the Venetian branch of the luxury hotel brand is hidden behind the historic façade of the Palazzo Papadopoli. Built in the second half of the 16th century, directly on the Grand Canal, it's just a stone's throw away from all the important sights. Inside, guests can look forward to every conceivable luxury. This is also reflected in the opulence of the rooms. Where would you feel truly royal if not here?
