TRIFORÊT alpin.resort: slow travel in an alpine designer refuge

In the mountains of Hinterstoder, a scenic retreat perfectly combines ecology and minimalist luxury: the TRIFORÊT alpin.resort.

July 22, 2024

A light breeze blowis at around 1,400 meters at the midway station of the Hinterstoder ski and hiking area. The natural surroundings here in the Pyhrn-Priel region are a real gem. It attracts outdoor sports enthusiasts as well as those seeking peace and quiet. While the valley stretches out on one side, the peaks of the Großer Priel and the Spitzmauer rise up in the distance. The fact that there is a new design retreat right here is a real enrichment for the area – it brings you closer to nature and invites you to linger in the here and now. The old hotel on the site stood empty for a time, but was recently transformed into the TRIFORÊT alpin.resort during a comprehensive renovation, and is now intended to appeal to a luxury-oriented, nature-loving clientele.

The architectural specifications were clear: the hotel should blend in perfectly with the mountain landscape. The roof of the main building was lowered on both sides so that it could withstand heavy snowfall. To give the typical alpine look sufficient space, an additional 20 freestanding chalets were built in the typical A-frame house style. It is the same tall, triangular shape with a fir wood façade that was used for the main house.

Guests enjoy a view of the surrounding alpine meadows from every apartment, thanks to the south-facing glass façades. The interior of the boutique hotel also sets completely new standards, with a dark color scheme rarely found in hotels that evokes coziness, quiet elegance and discreet luxury. Different materials from and matching the surroundings round off the concept of interior consultant Nicole Daniel-Fröhlich, who wanted to create something completely different: ice crystal lights that glisten in the sunlight, hip lounge chairs made of fur and modern wood trim.

There is nothing comparable in the area. Architect and investor Alois Aigner explains: "Harmony with your natural surroundings ist the future. The TRIFORÊT stands for a more exclusive, more sustainable type of tourism. It is a pioneer project that shows where the Alpine tourism of tomorrow is going." In fact, sustainability tourism, conscious consumption and slow travel with authentic, original experiences are becoming increasingly popular. The "TRIFORÊT" can look forward to a bright future, in part thanks to the economical use of resources, environmentally friendly mobility solutions and a fantastic location in the midst of the tranquil Alps.
