Enrique Gasa Valga, ballet dancer extraordinaire from Barcelona, has been living and working in Innsbruck for 20 years now: in six years as a dancer and 14 years as director of Tiroler Landestheater dance company, Tyrol became his adopted home. When there was a change of artistic director in 2023 and the Spaniard's position as director of dance theater wasn't extended, the audience campaigned for him to stay on: "There were 10,000 signatures from audience members who absolutely wanted me to stay. With this support and generous sponsors, I set up my own company and eventually founded Limonada Dance Company. I felt I had to give something back to my audience," says Valga.

A successful venture

Lágrimas Negras, Valga's comeback show and Limonada's debut program, celebrated its premiere at Congress Innsbruck in February of this year. It's a reflection on the torn nature of Cuba, based on the legendary Valdés family of pianists, who have shaped the musical heritage of the Caribbean island for three generations. This highly emotional artistic evening with great Cuban musicians and captivating choreography was very well received by the audience.

"This is a very special production for me. I had the privilege of working as a dancer in Cuba and was able to experience many touching stories, such as that of the legendary Valdés family, at first hand. It was a great honor to be able to tell this great Cuban story together with Bebo Valdés' grandson in my adopted home of Innsbruck," says Valga proudly about his audience hit. Next, you can marvel at the promising dance company with the production Frida Kahlo: Pasión por la vida (from June 12 to 22) at Deutsches Theater in Munich. The excitement is growing!
