When summer comes to mind, Croatia inevitably pops up. Lying on one of the many beautiful beaches in bright sunshine, enjoying crystal-clear water and delicious food - that's pure vacation feeling. In the land of a thousand islands, you really are spoiled for choice in summer. From the island of Hvar, the birthplace of organized tourism, to the enchanting island of Lastovo, where lobster and a breathtaking nature park awaits; the enchanting Lošinj or the dreamy island of Rab, where Croatian naturism began when King Edward VII of Britain dove naked into the waters in 1936 – there's the perfect beach for everyone here.

Dream beaches on the Adriatic

One of the most beautiful is the "Zlatni Rat", or "golden horn", near Bol on Brač: a long, golden pebble beach that reaches into the Adriatic like an outstretched hand. Thanks to its perfect winds and waves, it's a popular spot for windsurfers and kite flyers. It is also ideal for snorkeling, as there is no sand or seaweed here. Brač, the largest island in Dalmatia and a true natural beauty, has a lot more to offer: The best way to start your stay on this beautiful island is with a visit to the unique village of Bol. Beauty, elegance, a feel-good vibe and additional offers for families make it a real vacation hit – as does the most photogenic beach in Croatia.

But that's just the beginning: Stiniva beach on the island of Vis is surrounded by nature and can only be reached on foot or by boat. Another hidden treasure is Lubenice beach on the island of Cres; there are usually very few swimmers here – despite its picture-perfect view. And if you're looking for something completely different, Saplunara beach on the island of Mljet is just the thing: there are no hotels or restaurants on the beach at this gem, just a few small eateries serving typical Croatian food, surrounded by dense pine forest. Even Robinson Crusoe would find fulfillment here.

The ideal family vacation

A visit to Croatia also offers an incredible variety of fantastic beaches for families. The so-called Paradise Beach (Rajska plaža) on the island of Rab more than lives up to its name: the shallow depths and water slides make it the ideal destination for families. The sandy beach of Bijeca in southern Istria is also a true paradise for children: Here, youngsters can build sandcastles, splash around in the shallow, warm sea and play hide-and-seek in the dense pine forest – anything is possible. Then there is Soline Bay on the sunniest Croatian island – Hvar. On one side, you'll find a small sandy inlet with a floating play island for the little ones, while the other, more intimate and rugged side is protected by a pine forest. This makes it possible to spend the whole day by the sea, even in the hottest weather.

In addition to sun and beaches, a visit to Croatia also provides plenty of culture: Split, Trogir, Zadar and Šibenik each enjoy more than 2,400 hours of sunshine a year and are home to four UNESCO World Heritage Sites. They offer excellent opportunities for sailors and adventurers, thousands of years of history and the finest Mediterranean cuisine. Then there is the pearl of the Adriatic – known to some as Dubrovnik, to others as "King's Landing" from the hit series "Game of Thrones". The city offers rich history and traditions, and sun worshipers will definitely leave satisfied. Unforgettable moments, relaxation and Croatian-style dolce vita: Your perfect summer awaits – sun and beach are guaranteed!
