Those who long for the natural, tranquil side of Mauritius have every reason to stay at Heritage Le Telfair: the Golf & Wellness Resort is located in the middle of the island's only preserved natural area, Bel Ombre. Apart from lush green forests and endless sandy beaches, guests can expect elegant rooms in French colonial style, personal, cordial service, and a generous culinary and leisure offering.

Location

Turquoise waters, fine sandy beaches and the dense green of tropical forests: Le Telfair is located in the most beautiful area of all Mauritus, Bel Ombre. © Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort

Le Telfair is located in the 1,300-hectare Bel Ombre, the lush, tranquil south of Mauritius – far from the turbulent, sometimes very crowded north. Bordered at one end by the Bel Ombre Nature Reserve and an extensive golf course, at the other by a golden sandy beach, the resort is a paradisiacal hideaway between the jungle and the ocean.

Ambience

A small paradise by the Indian Ocean: extensive paths lead past palm trees as tall as houses and buildings in French colonial style. From the trendy C Beach Club with its long, golden sand beach to the large outdoor pool that looks out to the ocean: The atmosphere is as relaxed as it is elegant and you'll feel just as comfortable in yoga attire as you will in a chic dress.

Good to know:
The name Le Telfair comes from the Irish-British physician and biologist Charles Telfair, who documented numerous animal and plant species on the island.

Le Château

You can elegantly dine at the château, steeped in history. If you wish, you can also book the upper floor as a private suite. © Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort

The château was built by an Indian businessman in the 19th century, but he never moved into the stately home. The Heritage Resorts have carefully restored the building and the antique interior and host guests at spectacular lunch and dinner events. In addition, Le Château can be rented as a luxurious private accommodation. A spacious garden, which houses a small monkey, stretches around the house. If you take a seat under La Intendant, a 300-year-old tree, you might even get to see the "house pet" with just a little bit of luck.

Tip: On request, you can have a picnic basket, put together by the boss, to enjoy in the large garden.

Gastronomy

At Le Telfair, guests embark on a culinary journey around the world, as Mauritian specialties meet international cuisine. In addition to the three main restaurants, a bar, and the luxurious Le Château, located somewhat off the beaten path, guests also have access to the restaurants of the neighboring Awali Golf & Spa and the down-to-earth cuisine in The Residences.

Good to know:
The Heritage Resorts restaurants are committed to sustainability and environmental protection. They cook with seasonal ingredients, which are sourced fresh from the market in the nearest village every day. Special attention is paid to waste separation and recycling as well as plastic reduction.

Le Palmier impresses with courteous service, delicious seafood, and a great location right on the beach. A must-try is the mild Mauritian curry, which you'll love even if you can't take any heat. Romantic: Lovers are treated to a candlelight dinner and a special romance menu, including a selection of absolutely delicious desserts.

C Beach Club

Crossing the bridge next to Gin'ja Restaurant takes you directly to the beach – and to C Beach Club. On the culinary side, guests can expect a selection of international classics, plus DJ sounds and relaxed club vibes right on the beach.

AnnaBella's

Tropical birds chirp away on the balustrades. The ambience is relaxed, yet effortlessly elegant. And the food? Delicious, all day long. In the morning, you can help yourself to the large intercontinental buffet, with Nespresso coffee and show cooking. Lunch and dinner are à la carte, with authentic Mauritian curry, but also culinary classics like penne all'arrabiata. Asking the attentive staff for recommendations is always a good idea here!

Gin'ja

Culinary event tip: La Semaine de la Gastronomie Durable
In 2022, Le Telfair hosted its first La Semaine de la Gastronomie Durable - a week of sustainable culinary arts featuring master classes and elegant lunch and dinner events with Hood and star chef Chef Christian Têtedoie. The festival is expected to be held again in the summer of 2023.

Spa & Fitness

Spanning 2,000 square meters, the spa invites you to relax with authentic Mauritian treatments. The menu includes the Seven Colours Signature Massages, a series of typical Mauritian massage therapies. Recommended: The Le Telfair Signature Massage by Thémaé, which uses the wave technique. Afterwards, unwind with a glass of tea in the relaxation bunks at the resting patio with a hot tub.

Active guests can look forward to yoga and numerous water activities – from pedal boat and glass boat rides to snorkeling and kite surfing. All Heritage Resorts also have access to the Golf Club with Le Château Golf Course, the only 45-hole golf course in the region, as well as the excellent O'Grill restaurant. La Réserve Golf Links is also scheduled to open in 2023: designed by former Open champion Louis Oosthuizen, it will be the first contemporary links course in the Indian Ocean.
