Traveling alone not only brings you closer to other cultures, but also to yourself. But which destinations are especially popular as destinations for female solo travelers in 2023?
April 6, 2023
Anyone planning a trip usually first sets off into the vastness of the Internet. Women in particular, who are planning to travel alone, are relying more and more on search engines to plan their trip. First and foremost, of course, Google. Now the hospitality company Accor has set out to evaluate the worldwide search volume on this topic. As a result, the most popular destinations for women traveling alone in 2023 were sought out and there were several winners

Rank 1 and 2: Iceland and Italy
The country in northern Europe recorded around 2.74 million search queries. This puts Iceland ahead of the second place with almost 900,000 search queries. Rank two goes to Bella Italia. While Iceland scores with a particularly large number of opportunities to get active in nature, it is the beaches and the dolce vita that attract visitors to Italy. Incidentally, no other country has more UNESCO World Heritage sites than Italy!

For years, Iceland has repeatedly been ranked first in the Global Peace Index. It has thus been proven to be a particularly safe travel destination. Also for solo female travelers. It is remarkable that there was no change in the search volume compared to the previous year.
Rank 3: Japan

1.83 million searches per month relate to Japan as a destination for female solo travelers. This means 175 percent more searches are interested in the East Asian country than in 2022, which is the second highest change compared to the previous year. Japan is popular because of its safety. But the excellent infrastructure also makes it easy to move around the country alone.

The United Kingdom makes it to 4th place. With 1.2 million search queries, this is a solid ranking. However, it showed that the interest in it is just as high as last year. 49 percent more search queries than in 2022 are recorded by Singapore in 5th place, but a real surprise is Spain in 6th place.

As a solo trip destination for women, people have it on their radar three times more than last year. Spain is thus the up-and-coming hotspot among female solo travelers. And why not? Beautiful sandy beaches, secluded bays, lots of culture, joie de vivre and good food await travelers here.
