Why a Short Trip to Paris in Winter is Worthwhile

The capital of France is enchanting at any time of year. But Paris in winter is something very special: You can ice skate at famous sights and then get to warm up in Parisian restaurants!

December 28, 2023

Paris in winter gives visitors the opportunity to get to know the metropolis on the Seine from a completely different angle. In January, the Christmas hustle and bustle is over, but the city still shines in winter splendor. There are also some very special activities during the cold season.

What to Do

Paris is probably the most romantic city in Europe and ice skating is probably the most romantic activity in winter. So why not combine the two? The Provins ice rink is located just outside Paris. It's a very special insider tip, as the small medieval town itself is absolutely enchanting. Anyone who comes here immediately feels like they've traveled back in time. And then there's the 420 m² ice rink where you can do your laps. If you don't feel like skating, you can simply enjoy the city itself. It offers plenty of shopping opportunities as well as charming restaurants and cafés. It's also easy to reach by train from Paris Gare de l'Est station: Just take the P line and get off at Provins station.

If a trip to Provins is a little too far for you, you can also go ice skating in the heart of the city. The famous Jardin des Tuileries is probably the best place to experience winter in Paris. The 1200 m² ice rink is surrounded by food and drink stalls. The lights of the park transform the garden into a dreamlike setting.

Whether after a sporting activity or a winter walk, there's nothing better than warming up by an open fire with good food and a cocktail. No place in Paris is as suitable for this as the Speakeasy Gentlemen 1919. There's a barber's shop at the front, through which you can reach the bar at the back with its leather sofas and open fireplace. Small but nice, the bar offers unique cocktails as well as classic drinks.

As a rotisserie by Guy Savoy, a three-star Michelin chef, this is the perfect place for true connoisseurs. For dining, guests can choose between the wine cellar, the library or the fireplace room. The special highlight of the latter is of course the fireplace with an open fire, which makes the visit a cozy and unique experience.
