Tyrolean Festival Erl: Wagner's magnum opus
Xiomara Bender
With Richard Wagner's "Götterdämmerung" (Twilight of the Gods), director Brigitte Fassbaender and conductor Erik Nielsen bring the new Erl production of the German composer's great work to a close. Will love withstand lies and deceit? Will the ring - and with it the power over the world - actually end up in the hands of a dwarf and his son? Or will the gold perhaps find its way back into the Rhine after all, where it is so sorely missed by the Rhinemaidens? We recommend it: Find out the answers! After all, it doesn't hurt to give Bayreuth a little competition.

940 meters in altitude and a 16 percent gradient await gifted cyclists: on 15 August, hundreds of athletes will once again conquer the famous ski mountain by mountain bike at the International Hahnenkamm MTB Race.

One highlight (and a cooperation between Innsbruck International and the Tiroler Landestheater) is the so called performance "Sonne" by choreographer and dancer Doris Uhlich - it'll take to the stage of the Kammerspiele on May 24 at 8 pm with the children's choir of the Tiroler Landestheater.

The world's highest dragon boat race in St. Jakob in Defereggen Valley is entering its 16th round (28-29 June). The competition's motto is: "In the thick of it instead of just in it". The teams have to cover a distance of 250 meters with their richly decorated boats - the backdrop of three thousand meter peaks and the incomparable landscape of the 140 km² Hohe Tauern National Park is breathtaking.
Innsbruck Festival of Early Music: Sounds from times gone by
Birgit Gufler
One of the top events in Tyrol this summer is undoubtedly the Innsbruck Festival Weeks (1.7.-30.8.): For fans of early music, the compositions from the Renaissance and Baroque periods - always in their original sound as far as possible - are a feast for the ears. There are also workshops: children learn how to make a violin, for example. There are even musical excursions in the program - on two Sundays in July and August, musicians present wonderful sounds from bygone times on historical instruments on the alpine pastures of Innsbruck at midday, high above the city.
The rooftops of the city invite you to linger and enjoy.
