Summer is over and autumn is here. Not only we say that, but also the calendar. But just because it has become too fresh to swim in Austria, that doesn't mean that the rest of the year is too cold. Europe still has options. We reveal five destinations where travellers can still decently soak up the sun .
1. Malta
Malta, an island state that is really worth a trip all year round. The archipelago, consisting of the islands of Comino, Gozo and Malta, is located in the central Mediterranean Sea and offers the perfect conditions for every type of holiday. Those planning a beach holiday will find optimal temperatures on Malta in autumn. The archipelago south of Italy attracts in October with summery warm temperatures between 26 and 30 degrees and a water temperature of 24 degrees. However, if you have ever been on holiday in Malta in winter, you will certainly have noticed that the locals still jump into the (sea) water from time to time in December/January. By plane you can reach Malta from Austria in about two hours.

2. algarve
The Algarve, on the south coast of Portugal, with its sandy beaches, rocks, caves and bays is as diverse as probably no other coastal stretch in Europe. Especially in autumn, a trip here is ideal, because there are still pleasant temperatures of 27 degrees on average at the beginning of October. And also the water temperature of about 20 degrees is tempting to splash around. Whether you want to explore the coastline of the Algarve by rental car or by bike, or you want to experience the history of Portugal in Faro, the Algarve offers numerous leisure activities. 3. lanzerote
Black earth, green vines, hot volcanoes: For Lanzarote, October is even considered the best time to travel, along with the months of May and June. At this time, the weather on Lanzarote is stable and mild. The temperatures are between the minimum of 18 degrees and the maximum of 28 degrees. Italy simply always goes! And definitely also in autumn. Especially in Sicily, a beach holiday is still possible in October.
