Reason to Book?
The boutique resort has only 63 rooms. This allows guests plenty of space and privacy. Rustic ambience meets uncomplicated luxury here. Top address for gourmets and connoisseurs, own winery included.
Location & neighborhood
The resort is located about 50 kilometers east of Avignon. It is perched on a small hill above extensive vineyards, olive groves and lavender fields. From Marseille airport, the resort can be reached in about an hour by car. Numerous bike paths lead directly away from the resort. They quickly bring you to romantic villages like Roussilon and Gargas.
Rooms & suites
When Swiss entrepreneur Andy Rihs first saw the hamlet in 2006, he immediately fell in love. He bought the entire ensemble and, with friends, transformed it into what is now the Coquillade Provence Resort & Spa. Guests stay in small stone houses called bastides. They are all separately accessible. The décor is rustic-luxurious. Stone walls, natural materials and muted tones predominate. Almost all rooms have spacious balconies and terraces. The highlight are the pool suites. They are equipped with a Jacuzzi and a pool. Hence the name.
Food & Drinks
It's no coincidence that it's called "Eat like God in France." Because they can cook, the French. In the restaurant "Les Vignes et son Jardin" you dine outside on the terrace. While the view sweeps over the vineyards, behind which the sun sets, the team serves French classics. These, in turn, are inspired by Provence. And if you prefer Italian, lunch is served in the Sicilian-inspired "Cipressa."
At the new fine-dining restaurant "Avelan," every course is a work of art. Two aspects are the crowning of the food. First, many ingredients come from the restaurant's own garden. Second, some of the wine comes from the restaurant's own "Aureto" winery. Also worth mentioning: the new Lalique bar with its liquid delicacies.
Wellness & Fitness
Outside, two exceedingly spacious pools invite you to let yourself drift. Of course, surrounded by lush gardens that bloom in all colors. In the fall, and when the weather doesn't cooperate, an indoor pool is available. The spa offers expert treatments. The offer ranges from Ayurveda to sports massages. In the gym, you can work out on state-of-the-art equipment. The entire wellness area is bright, friendly, and far removed from plastic lotus flower kitsch.
Service & Amenities
Some employees are extremely motivated. Others make every grumpy Viennese look like a Teletubby. Antoine does a particularly outstanding job. He is the holder of the Clefs d'Or. One of the amenities is that at the end of the "village street" is the hotel's own bicycle rental. Whether together with a guide or alone, you can explore the wonderful surroundings on an e-bike. In the fall, the Coquillade has its own truffle concierge. Funny idea: guests are allowed to take their pillow home.
Childcare
Although the resort seems quite "adult", it is also suitable for families with children. Because in the family suites there is enough space for five people. There are also double rooms that can be connected. Babysitting service is available on request for kids between 3 and 10 years old. In the spa, children from 5 years old are welcome. And bike rentals include children's bikes. Four rooms are barrier-free. Four-legged family members are also allowed.
A Tip from the editorial office
Directly on the hotel property is the production facility of the hotel's own "Aureto" winery. What could be better than to book a wine tasting just a few steps from your room? And another culinary tip: the avocado salad at breakfast is delicious.
The bike tours with guide are a nice experience. Because he brings you to hidden sights. You should definitely go to Roussillon. The red village on the hill is beautiful. Also worth a visit: the former ochre mine of Gargas.
