rooms and suites
The 57 suites and deluxe rooms are spread over the three floors of the hotel. The highlight - some of the suites extend over two or even all three floors and offer breathtaking views of the city and the lagoon. The flagship among the suites is the 35-square-meter Altana Suite - it even has a private rooftop balcony. Milan-based Spanish architect Patricia Urquiola was enlisted to design the interior. In redesigning the historic villa, she succeeded in incorporating the fascinating history and culture of the lagoon city into the new hotel, thus conveying a Venetian attitude to life. In selecting materials, she relied primarily on local craftsmanship. The wallpaper and fabrics were made to her designs at Rubelli, taking care to ensure that the materials reflected the lagoon's waters. The beautifully designed lamps were also made to her specifications, in Murano, of course.

Ambience
For nearly 800 years, the villa, built in 1272 with a beautiful courtyard, housed crusaders, pilgrims, and those in need of care before it was now transformed into a fine boutique hotel. Architecture and design buffs in particular are delighted with this addition to Venice's luxury hotel scene. In the lobby, altarpieces in the niches remind us that this was once the site of the building complex's church. The eye-catcher, however, is a magnificent chandelier. More than 14,000 crystals were assembled by glass artists from Murano to form a three-part, blown sail. The curved lines of the "Gogan sofas" designed by Urquiola for Moroso match, and the carpet resembles Venetian burnout velvet. In the adjacent library, wallpaper and glass elements evoke ocean waves. "I wanted to interpret the past of this place in a contemporary way without distorting it," Urquiola says. She has succeeded in this with great perfection.

Gastronomy
The main restaurant is called "Vero" - one could aptly translate the name as "true". The menu features modern interpretations of Venetian and Mediterranean cuisine. Of course, there is freshly caught fish, but also meat and pasta dishes. The recommendations of chef Raimondo Squeo can be followed without hesitation. The wine list only includes good wines from the region. Breakfast is served in the Essentia restaurant. In fine weather, there is also seating in the secluded courtyard. You can end the day with a cocktail in the Alchemia Bar.

Location/Surroundings
The hotel is located on the Riva Ca' di Dio canal in the Castello district, not far from the Arsenale. It is a perfect starting point for a visit to the Biennale. Rialto Bridge and St. Mark's Square are also within walking distance, and those who want to explore the city through its narrow canals can hop on a gondola right from the hotel.

A Tip from the editorial office
Book a seat on the terrace of the restaurant "Vero", taste the delicious marinated sardines, drink a cool white wine with it and enjoy the view of the lagoon.
