Vertigo Grill and Moon Bar, Bangkok, Thailand

A breathtaking view while enjoying international dishes

Dinner-Spots

It would be hard to eat more urban than this, because while you are having your dinner or drinks on the 61st floor of the "Banyan Tree" hotel, the glittering metropolis of Bangkok lies at your feet. The cuisine is mainly international - pasta, burgers and steaks, for example, but also sirloin steak from Australia and Japanese Miyazaki tenderloin are on the menu. When it comes to desserts, the Caramel Apple Tarte Tatin at the Vertigo Grill and Moon Bar stand out for their imaginative presentation. But the star of the evening is undoubtedly the view of the city skyline, which is best enjoyed over a cocktail at the bar.

Dinner-Spots

Framed by 250 imposing three-thousand-meter peaks, the "ice Q", located at 3048 meters, is not only an architecturally outstanding James Bond filming location ("Spectre"), but also a place where upscale cuisine is celebrated. Chef Klaus Holzer serves refined three- to five-course menus as well as à la carte dishes that put a twist on Austrian classics. The highlight is the Summit Dinner, which takes place from end of December to end of March each Wednesday - apart from the hood-crowned menu sequence, the mountain world glowing in the sunset absolutely enchants the guests. The "Wine & Tapas Lounge" is the perfect place to stop for a bite to eat in between.

Sierra Mar, Big Sur, USA

The highlights of Californian farms between sky and sea

Dinner-Spots

Curiosity and a large dose of pragmatism inspire Executive Chef Il Hoon Kang's menus in Big Sur, California. At the same time, sustainability aspects are always taken into consideration: Most of the ingredients come from the immediate surroundings, some even from the restaurant's own farm. The restaurant, part of the Post Ranch Inn hotel, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The most spectacular views can be enjoyed at sunset, when the sun slowly sinks into the Pacific Ocean. Just as the Sierra Mar restaurant seems to balance on a cliff, the kitchen also balances land and sea; a four-course vegan menu is available upon request.

Suhail, Al Mirayr, United Arab Emirates

The brightest star over the LIWA oasis

An approximately 90-minute drive from bustling Abu Dhabi, a different world is awaiting guests. They find themselves in the Liwa Oasis, the "empty quarter''. On closer inspection, however, it's not quite so empty, because this is where the Anantara Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort welcomes its guests. At its highest point is the "Suhail", named after one of the stars once used by Bedouins for orientation. With breathtaking views of the desert dunes, the team serves fish and seafood, grilled dishes, and international fare such as risotto and short ribs with impeccable perfection. The desserts and the carefully selected wine list are a dream.

Fresh in the Garden, Kunfunadhoo, Maldives

Gourmet cuisine amidst a canopy of green leaves

Floating on stilts, resembling a treetop, the "Fresh in the Garden" rises to dizzying heights in the middle of the Maldives island of Kunfunadhoo, directly above the resort's organic garden. Once you have made your way across the suspension bridge, you can dine amid the lush foliage of a banana grove, listen to the sounds of tropical nature, and enjoy, among other things, the best that the garden and the sea have to offer here. Freshly caught fish find their way onto the plates, as do vegetables in all their variations. Afterwards, it's worth crossing another suspension bridge to end the evening at the observatory under the twinkling stars.
