After a year of intensive renovation work, andBeyond Mnemba Island, one of the most exclusive private islands off the coast of Africa, shines in new splendor. The ten-hectare island, which is reserved exclusively for guests of the South African tour operator andBeyond, now offers a luxurious experience based on an elegant interpretation of classic barefoot luxury.

Under the creative direction of Fox Browne Creative and Nicholas Plewman Architects, the twelve distinctive bandas—traditional beach bungalows—along the island’s coastline have been reimagined, offering more space and privacy. Guests can look forward to private beach lounges accessible via separate entrances from the beach and the surrounding island forest. The interiors feature soft natural tones inspired by the island’s color palette, decorated with delicate coral accents that enhance the serene, natural ambiance.

The central guest areas have also been enhanced: the redesign emphasizes unobstructed views of the turquoise sea, offering spaces for both gatherings and quiet retreats. A highlight is the new bar, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor areas to create the perfect setting for social or private moments. In addition to classic beachfront dining areas, you'll also find covered zones and a courtyard with Swahili influences.

Another highlight of the redesign is the new wellness area, which opens up toward the island forest. Two treatment rooms and a yoga platform offer guests a chance to find tranquility at sunrise or sunset. Additional sound therapy sessions complete the mindfulness offerings, creating a space for relaxation and rejuvenation amid nature.

With the redesigned Discovery Centre, andBeyond Mnemba Island strengthens its commitment to conservation. Here, guests are introduced to the “Oceans Without Borders” initiative, a partnership between andBeyond and Wild Impact, offering insights into marine ecosystem protection and raising awareness of the importance of these habitats. From the expanded dive center, guests can embark on a variety of island activities—from stand-up paddleboarding to new excursions with glass-bottom kayaks and sailing tours. Guided Dhau cruises along the coast and participation in conservation projects such as coral cultivation and artificial reef building invite guests to experience the wonders of the marine world up close.
