For the ninth time, the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania asked 17,000 people to vote on 87 countries. The aim was to determine 2024's best country in the world. For the third time in a row, this title has now gone to Switzerland. But how do you come to such a result? And why did Switzerland, of all countries, win the title?

2024's best country in the world: factors

The assessment factors were grouped into ten sub-categories. These include, for example, economic stability, security, level of education, cultural heritage and environmental and quality of life. This year, particular attention was paid to the "Movers" category, which measures a country's growth potential and reflects its future economic opportunities. This category had the greatest weight in the ranking.

Switzerland has managed to take first place for the seventh time. It has now achieved this feat three times in a row. It performed particularly well in the areas of "Open for business", "Quality of life" and "Entrepreneurship". The stable economy, the high level of social security and the excellent quality of life make Switzerland a role model for other nations. The report emphasizes that Switzerland remains one of the most successful countries in terms of economic and cultural success.

Japan and the USA are catching up

While Switzerland continues to hold the top spot, Japan made a considerable leap. The country moved up to second place. Especially in the categories "Movers", "Open for business" and "Adventure", Japan made great progress.

The United States moved up two places and landed in third place - its highest ever position in this ranking. The rise in the "Open for business" category is particularly notable, indicating the increased competitiveness of the US. The top 5 is completed by Canada in 4th place and Australia in 5th place. Denmark returns to the top 10 after a one-year break and climbed up three places. Serbia (88th place) and Belarus (89th place) are at the bottom of the list.
