Aruba's Sustainable Vacation: Protecting Paradise

The more paradisiacal travel destinations are, the more vulnerable they can be. So it doesn't come as a surprise that sustainable vacations are booming in Aruba.

October 10, 2024

When you think of a dream vacation, you might immediately think of white sandy beaches, crystal-clear water and palm trees gently swaying in the wind. And thus inevitably the concept of the Caribbean idyll. Because this is exactly how Aruba presents itself. It's a single postcard motif. Eagle Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, can be found right here. It lies at the gates of Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort, which has been awarded the title of the world's most sustainable hotel by the United Nations. It now reveals how sustainable vacations in Aruba can also succeed outside the hotel.

Excursions with electricity

A visit to Arikok National Park in the south-east of the island is a special experience. Here, you can marvel at cacti, divi-divi trees and colorful, exotic butterflies. The national park is also home to wild donkeys, rabbits, lizards and snakes. That shouldn't stop you from packing your swimsuit because a natural pool invites you to cool off. Another highlight is the Quadirikiri Cave. Its stalagmites and stalactites are impressive! To keep the ecological footprint as small as possible, guests of the Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort travel around in the hotel's own electric car.

On the road with muscle power

Such beautiful surroundings literally invite you to get active yourself. And instead of relying on resource-consuming means of transportation, why not rely on your own muscle power? Mountain bikes are particularly popular. You can whizz along the coast, through the mountains or through the desert-like interior. Experienced bikers make their way to the California Lighthouse. The view from up there is unbeatable. Hiking fans will also get their money's worth. The California Dunes in Hudishibana seem to have fallen out of another world. They are named after the famous steamship that sank off the coast in 1891.

Romance with wind

Even the classic sunset cruise is made more ecological. A sustainable vacation in Aruba also means slowing down a little: Because here you can take a sailboat towards the sunset. As the boat glides almost silently over the water, your gaze wanders into the distance and the ice cubes clink quietly in your cocktail glass. The evening is just perfect. Make sure you have your favorite person by your side!

Nourished with aloe

Aloe is now known all over the world. However, very few people know that its finest representative comes from the island of Aruba. The Aruba Aloe company not only cultivates and harvests its plants on the island, but also processes them locally. It's the basis of a consistently growing collection of high-quality care products. Guests can take a tour of the factory and, of course, shop. The products can also be found at the Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort.

Animal delights

The secluded Mangel Halto beach, surrounded by a belt of mangroves, is perfect for mindful snorkeling. Here, you can encounter a variety of different, colorful sea creatures. Speaking of animals: the owner of Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort, Ewald Biemans, is also committed to the animals on the island. He finances the sterilization of stray cats and funds the Turtugaruba Foundation, which looks after the island's sea turtles.
