More than 450 million records sold, several Grammys, two Oscars, an Emmy, a Tony: Sir Elton John's professional career is unique. But the musician also knows how to impress in his private life - with one of the most important photo collections in the world. 300 exhibits can now be seen in the colossal show called Fragile Beauty. How have African artists experienced and processed everyday life over the past 100 years? This question is the focus of When We See Us at the Kunstmuseum Basel, in which 120 creative artists are presented with 200 works. The title of the exhibition is inspired by the Netflix series When They See Us, in which black youths are seen as potential criminals by white people. The change from "They" to "We" stands for a reversal of perspective and offers space for one's own perception.

Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo and Audrey Hepburn: Salvatore Ferragamo became famous as the shoemaker to the stars. The Italian laid his foundations in America - he opened his first store in Hollywood around 100 years ago. He quickly made his breakthrough by outfitting silent films, for example Moses wandering through the desert in Ferragamo shoes in The Ten Commandments. The exhibition Salvatore Ferragamo 1898-1960 now pays tribute to the most important chapters in the visionary's life.

Elizaveta Porodina
"My works are a window into my subconscious for the public," explains Elizaveta Porodina, a Moscow native who lives in Munich. Her surrealist photographs reflect her inner world through the interplay of light, color and shadow and repeatedly blur the boundaries between art and fashion photography. The award-winning artist works for brands such as Dior, Chanel and Armani - in "Un/Masked", the 37-year-old gives visitors a glimpse behind the masks and holds up a mirror to them.
