Although autumn is popular for its seasonal delicacies such as pumpkin soup and chestnuts, it is also a good time for hiking. Thanks to the pleasant climate in autumn, we don't sweat as much and can enjoy the wonderful colours in which autumn bathes the landscape. But not only Europe has great hiking routes, there are many more extraordinary hiking trails waiting to be discovered around the globe.
Hiker's paradise Switzerland
Fancy a spectacular hiking tour through the beautiful Swiss Alps? Then the Radisson Blu Hotel Reussen in Andermatt at an altitude of 1,444 metres, is the perfect base for hikes of all kinds. On a total length of over 500km, various hiking trails can be explored, such as the "Göscheneralp-Göschenen", on which there are gigantic rock faces, glaciers and crystal clear lakes. The "Schöllenschlucht-Runde" around the so-called Devil's Bridge is exciting and there is also something for the little ones to experience on the interactive hike around "the favourite places of Molly the marmot".
Hiking at the other end of the world
Australia is usually associated with the vibrant capital Melbourne, a great flora and fauna and millennia-old Aboriginal culture. For outdoor fans, the continent has a lot more to offer: Australia is the hiker's paradise par excellence! The Great Ocean Walk is the most well-known, which reveals the entire beauty of Victoria with its fine sandy beaches, wild rocky coasts and deep green primeval forests. The approximately 100-kilometer-long hiking trail leads through several national parks and can be conquered in about eight days - along the way, seven campsites and numerous hotels and B&Bs invite you to recharge your batteries.
Sunny prospects
Summer, sun, hiking boots! The year-round warm climate on the Canary Islands invites you to swim and relax even in late autumn - but each of the eight islands is also a little paradise for hikers. Past historic fishing villages, through ancient rainforests to emerald green lagoons, the hiking routes convince with their breathtaking variety. One example is the paved trail from the village of Yé to Guinate, where outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy magnificent views of the coast. The winding paths on the way down, leading to a well-deserved dip in the sea, are lined with a variety of endemic plants and animals.
Snowshoe hiking on the Kitzsteinhorn
For all Austria lovers, this particularly dreamlike backdrop is suitable for an exciting alpine tour. Zell am See-Kaprun is known for many highlight locations in summer, but can keep up just as well in winter with numerous snowshoe hiking routes. If you want to combine such a tour with a fantastic view, the Ice Camp Trail on the Kitzsteinhorn is just the right place. Beginners are instructed in the proper use of snowshoes at the start of the guided hike - because prior knowledge is not a prerequisite.
