Nothing disturbs the sweeping view of the mountains of the Mallorcan north: no houses, no signs, no cars. In fact, there's no indication that you are on one of the most visited islands in the Mediterranean. Even the nearby town of Artà remains invisible; instead, your eyes rest on oaks, pines, olive trees and the occasional cypress. All the colors come from the palette of nature, birdsong is the only background noise. The five-star wellness hotel Es Racó d'Artà is located in the protected nature park of the Peninsula de Llevant in an old estate that has barely been touched by the outside world. A lovingly restored farmhouse and several new casitas with private pools blend in with the original surroundings. The large infinity saltwater pool lives up to its name: from its mirror-smooth water, you seem to swim directly into the green hills.

The creators of Es Racó d'Artà are the building contractor Jaume Danus and the architect and designer Antoni Esteva, who has already designed several Mallorcan luxury finca hotels. The two friends transformed a farm with 200 hectares of land, whose roots date back to the 13th century, into a wellness hotel that redefines sustainability, nature conservation and purist luxury. Because nature is close to the owners' hearts, they didn't cut down a single tree during the transformation. When building the new cottages, the couple opted for natural materials such as stone - for example Mallorcan limestone - reed and wood. As a result, the complex blends almost imperceptibly into the Mediterranean landscape.

Heating is provided by geothermal and solar energy, and the process water is purified in a reed bed treatment plant and returned to nature. Bleach and harsh cleaning agents are also not used in housekeeping or pool maintenance. The result of this concept is an almost magical symbiosis of exquisite luxury and a meditative experience of nature that allows travelers to get away from it all and recharge their batteries and creativity.

Yoga, meditation and walks

At Es Racó d'Artà, not only the soul but also the body should find relaxation. The spa is located in a separate, light-flooded building that offers endless views of the landscape. There's an indoor pool as well as relaxation rooms with a view; in the treatments you'll be pampered with organic care products, most of whose ingredients come from the island. Innovative wellness treatments include the underwater Watsu massage, whose name is a combination of Shiatsu and Water. Yoga, meditation, sunset walks, astronomical views of the starry sky and creative activities such as basket weaving, painting and pottery under the guidance of local artisans help to find the perfect balance between tranquillity and stimulation.

No-frills comfort

The minimalist look of the 34 rooms, all in white and natural tones - eight of them in the historic farmhouse, the others in the new outbuildings - contributes to this. From the very first moment, the look allows guests to calm down and fully immerse themselves in nature and the truly dreamlike surroundings. Natural stone floors, wooden beams, whitewashed walls, traditional woven carpets, no-frills furniture and lamps made of wood, ceramic and metal as well as free-standing bathtubs prove that understated aesthetics and maximum comfort are not mutually exclusive. The purist style continues through to the clothing of the staff, who look after the guests in subtle natural tones.

Enjoyment from the organic garden

Traditional, sustainable agriculture is still practiced on the estate and a herb and vegetable garden is cultivated. The yields provide the hotel with home-grown fruit, vegetables, fresh herbs, its own olive oil and wine; all of organic quality. The restaurant Beni Axir, whose name refers to the era of a medieval Berber settlement in this area, is often referred to as the gastronomic corner in the resort - here, the atmosphere is informal so guests can feel at home. You can choose between an indoor table next to the open kitchen or the outdoor terrace.

The restaurant's own produce and fair trade products from local fincas form the basis of a simple Mediterranean cuisine that focuses on the outstanding taste of the best ingredients. Here, fish and seafood from a fishing family in Cala Ratjada and delicacies from a farmer friend's free-range Mallorcan Porc Negre pig are prepared as well as salad and vegetables from their own land, creating culinary moments of happiness. Guests will remember their stay for a long time.
