Marrakech's legendary palace hotel in new splendour

La Mamounia opens after redesign

9 October 2020

A ray of hope from the hotel industry in these times: On October 16, 2020, La Mamounia will reopen its doors to luxury and gourmet lovers from around the world after five months of extensive renovations. Under Parisian interior designers Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku, the rooms and public areas have been given a modern facelift with a new contemporary concept, while maintaining the traditional charm of the grand hotel. "A hotel should always be innovative and contemporary," said Pierre Jochem, general manager of La Mamounia for almost seven years. He is now all the more pleased that the balancing act between modernity and the heritage from 95 years of hotel history has succeeded.

After an extensive renovation together with Parisian interior designers Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku, La Mamounia will reopen its doors on 16 October 2020.

Between tradition and modernity

The exciting juxtaposition of the two worlds - modern design and traditional riads - has also attracted fashion pogues from all over the world to Marrakech time and again. Design greats such as Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Kenzo, Valentino or Jean Paul Gaultier have sought a second home in the mysterious alleys of the old town after experiencing the magic of this place during a stay at La Mamounia. Marrakech's magic continues unabated: "Ambience tourism", that is, the vibrant life set against exotic backdrops, continues to create new fans among the world's most discerning guests. For personalities from Franz Beckenbauer to Thomas Gottschalk and from Nicole Kidman to Madonna, the Moroccan fairytale city in conjunction with La Mamounia possesses an irresistible charm. Marrakech is the old familiar and always new Mecca of high society.

Originally opened in 1923, the palace hotel is symbolic of traditional Moroccan hospitality.

Restaurant with new concept

In the course of the reopening, the trendy domicile will be complemented by two culinary highlights by the internationally renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The French chef is known for his love of unusual ingredients. At La Mamounia, Jean-Georges Vongerichten will apply his style and sense of innovation in two very different ways: In an Italian trattoria as well as in a restaurant with a new Asian concept inspired by the culinary influences of Southeast Asia. In this way, the Palast Hotel meets the constantly evolving wishes of its guests and at the same time sends a clear signal for the enduring desire to travel and enjoy in a unique ambience.

La Mamounia regularly welcomes the "Who's Who" of international royalty, politicians, celebrities and the jet set.
