Mandarin Oriental makes history in Munich
Reopening for the 20th anniversary
12 October 2020
Following the most extensive renovation in the hotel's history, Mandarin Oriental, Munich is reopening its doors in time for its 20th anniversary. Following the restoration of its public areas and the successful launch of the Matsuhisa Munich in 2015, the hotel now presents its new guest rooms and suites to live up to its reputation as one of the best luxury hotels in Germany.
Tradition in contemporary design
"We are delighted to present our new and beautifully designed rooms and suites at Mandarin Oriental, Munich. The new design blends between tradition and modernity, creating an elegant ambience with contemporary functionality. The new art concept, which can be admired throughout the hotel, pays tribute to Munich's geographical location as the gateway to the Alps. We are especially proud to be one of the first hotels in Germany to replace single-use plastic in guest rooms and bathrooms with sustainable alternatives," said Dominik G. Reiner, General Manager. "The team and I can't wait to finally welcome our guests back and offer them unforgettable experiences and the personal and unobtrusive service we are known for," he added.
New rooms and suites
The new room concept was created by the design office cm-Design in Hamburg. Interior designers Ralf Claussen and Kathrin Matthiesen conceived a perfectly coordinated mix of styles, colours and patterns, selecting furniture in a historical style with a fresh, contemporary look. They worked with renowned manufacturers such as Ligne Roset, Bavarian-based and family-run carpenter Felix Graf, and House of Tai Ping, the renowned Hong Kong-based manufacturer of textile floor coverings. The completely redesigned bathrooms appear in elegant black and white; the generous use of glass ensures transparency and brightness. The latest bathroom technology not only ensures reduced energy and water consumption, but also offers a special wellness effect. In addition to state-of-the-art technology in all rooms and suites, guests enjoy a wide range of new amenities and services: From biodegradable coffee capsules for Nespresso machines to a minibar restocked daily by the bar team and personal butler service. Another highlight is the newly introduced champagne service, which is offered every afternoon from the custom-made trolley directly in the room.
Art and comfort
The art concept developed in collaboration with the well-known Munich art historian Dr. Sonja Lechner can be admired not only in the public areas. All 73 rooms and suites are decorated with an individual mountain painting by local artist Felix Rehfeld - student of Karin Kneffel, one of Germany's best-known contemporary artists and master student of Gerhard Richter. The centerpiece of the collection, an art installation with 100 miniature mountain paintings, is prominently displayed in the hotel lobby. All suites are additionally adorned with a relief in the shape of a mountain massif, which was made exclusively for the hotel by Königliche Porzellanmanufaktur Nymphenburg.
"Staycation by M.O."
On the occasion of the reopening, the hotel is offering a special package that is available until 31 March 2021: Every booking comes with daily breakfast, a bottle of champagne in the room and a daily credit of 100 euros that can be redeemed in the entire hotel, including Matsuhisa Munich and the Sushi Masterclass. In order to enjoy your stay as long as possible, there is also an early check-in from 10 am and a late check-out until 4 pm.
