1. experience the lunar landscape of Sarakiniko

You can't go to Milos and miss this marvel of nature. On the northeastern coast of the island the scenery is dominated by chalk-white rock formations. Is this Greece or the surface of the moon? The crystal-clear bay has served as a background for countless photoshoots and is especially insta-ready. The effect is even cooler at sunset or under a full moon.
2. explore the caves of Kleftiko
The name "Kleftiko" comes from the times when pirates hid in the caves; it means "to steal". © Shutterstock
From Port Adams, a boat trip to the southwest corner of Milos is worth your while. The white cliffs that rise from the crystal clear sea are a sight to behold. Rocks and caves, naturally formed arches and bizarre rock formations are waiting to be discovered.
3. bathing at Firiplaka beach
The water is particularly shallow here, which makes it the perfect place for a beach trip for families with children as well. © Shutterstock
The southern coast scores with a lot of peace, fine sand and gentle waves. One of the most beautiful beaches in a row of wonderful spots is Firiplaka. You can rent umbrellas and hang out at the beach bar as well.
4. enjoy a spa experience at Paliochori Beach

Paliochori Beach, southwest of Zefiria, is one of the most unusual beaches on the island. On top of golden sand and red rocks, visitors can expect unusually warm water due to the many hot springs that bubble to the surface here. Another peculiarity: Paliochori is located near a dormant volcano. Some of the restaurants on the beach even cook their food with volcanic heat.
5. cool underground

Speaking of heat: if it gets too hot to bear, you can simply escape underground. Milos boasts catacombs dating back to the 1st century AD. Over 2,000 Christians found their final resting place in the tunnel system.
6. visit the Milos Mining Museum

And speaking of "underground", make sure to add a visit to the Mining Museum to your Milos bucket list. The history of the island is closely connected with mining. Way back in the Neolithic period, obsidian was mined here. At the museum in Adamas, visitors get thrilling insights into the history of mining.
7. marvel at the Roman Theater

In close proximity to the catacombs, the amphitheater dates back to the 3rd century B.C. Originally built by the Hellenes, it used to hold more than 7,000 visitors on a total of eight levels. The location is spectacular, as are the marble seats overlooking the natural harbor.
8. climb up to Plaka Castle
The path is the goal: on the way you'll come across two picturesque churches; from the top you can admire stunning sunsets. © Shutterstock
In the small village of Plaka, you can find a staircase leading up the hill. You could almost think it was the lauded "Stairway to Heaven". It's a bit of a climb, but the effort is well worth it. At the end, sport travelers are rewarded with a breathtaking view from the second highest peak on Milos. And the remains of a 13th century castle. You will also pass two beautiful churches along the way: Panagia Skiniotissa and Panagia Thalassitra.
9. stroll through Paliorema

Also for this point on the bucket list Milos a little effort is required. But it will be rewarded. Because a few kilometers east of Zefiria lies the ghost town of Paliorema. Once a sulfur mine, it is now a must-see on the Greek island.
10. marvel at the cave of Sykia
So close to heaven: the cave of Sykia seems unreal and is one of the most beautiful photo motifs on the island. © Shutterstock
Some sights are made even more beautiful by how secluded they are. It takes a boat to reach this collapsed cave with a beach, white rock formations and crystal clear water.
